When it comes to sheer numbers, Hotmail still has the ranks. However, Gmail has always been superior in terms of features and pushing the digital envelope. Yesterday, they released “Priority Inbox” to help with email overload.

What is your position at Orange Circle Studios?
I’m a Senior Art Director. I create my own designs as well as work with other talented illustrators.
What is something you are proud of accomplishing in the last 2 years?
Establishing a new calendar company with very good friends has definitely been the highlight of the last two years. It’s a dream come true!

Our Bold Blossoms design has really taken off, and because it’s on several different formats, it seems to be the customer favorite so far. The Bold Blossoms Engagement Planner is doing especially well.
What was your inspiration for those designs?
I took a trip to an arboretum in our area (Irvine, CA) and I saw bunches of bold flowers in wonderful colors. They were so beautiful! They were a definite inspiration for the calendars I was working on at the time.
Who are some of your artistic influences?
Any artist who is creative, and creates art to give joy, smiles, and laughter to those who admire their art. Some stand-out favorites are Paul Klee and Joan Miro. Their art is playful, and their use of color is really wonderful.
What do you design outside of your job?
I love to design invitations for parties and events for my kids Joshua and Kaia.
What is your design software of choice?
Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop
Ninjas or Pirates?
Umm..I do like Pirates of the Caribbean, so I’ll go with Pirates!
Nick Patrick recently posted an article briefly touching on the history of the playing card, and where the various different types come from:
“The precursor to today’s 52-card Anglo-American deck (standardized only recently) came to Europe from Egypt in the 14th century. Those Egyptian decks had four “suits” (sticks, coins, swords, and cups), with ten “spot” cards (whose values were determined by the number of symbols, or “pips,” on each card) and three “court” or “face” cards in each suit.”

Rick Norsigian purchased 65 photo-negatives from a garage sale 10 years ago at the quaint price of $75. Today, those same prints are worth over $200 million. So what’s so special about those negatives? Answer: They were created by Ansel Adams, possibly the most prolific photographers the camera has ever been held by.

These “lost” negatives were thought to have been lost in the 1937 darkroom fire that destroyed over 5,000 plates of his work.
In an interview with CNN, Richard Alt, a photography expert said:
“It is my belief that he brought these negatives with him for teaching purposes and to show students how to not let their negatives be engulfed in a fire,”… “I think this clearly explains the range of work in these negatives, from very early pictorialist boat pictures, to images not as successful, to images of the highest level of his work during this time period.”
Side note: With the sheer amount of calendars ranging from dogs doing yoga, to top-of-their-field artists, I find it personally fun to know we have a calendar for almost every celebrity or artist news article. I find myself saying, “we have a calendar of him/her” very often.

Did you know we sell over 50 different versions of Monopoly available on our site? We have everything from Dukeopoly, to Denveropoly, Wizard of Oz – opoly. I was reading a short piece on the history of Monopoly and never realized how widespread the game really is. Facebook will soon be announcing their 500 millionth user, while Monopoly has already been played by more people than that. You thought Facebook was taking over the world? 
Monopoly City Streets was released late in 2009 to help spur users into playing a massive multi-player online version of the popular board game. I remember being extremely excited about this push, only to be let down by the web server issues, hackers, and what seemed to be impossible numbers others were achieving. It was mediocre fun to say the least. I think Monopoly will always be more fun when played around a small coffee table. The online game has been shut down.
Did you know that Monopoly was used to help prisoners of war plan their escape? Here’s an excerpt from a site that goes more in depth as to how it was used:
As he gently spread the layers of cardboard of the package, he found two slivers of metal which screwed together to form a file. He broke the little wooden red hotel to find a tiny silk map of his region folded very tightly. Under the packaged Monopoly money was real German Reich marks ready to spend and, finally, inside the Scotty dog was a tiny compass.

For a career that has spanned 70 years, our favorite Golden Girl with a ridiculous sense of humor now has her own calendar. We received some proofs about what her calendar will look like, and it’s such a classic.
In early January of 2010, a Facebook group called “Betty White to Host SNL (Please)” urged NBC to have the 88 year old host the show. NBC heard the call, and Betty White hosted on May 8th, 2010.
Her monologue and appearance is an important cultural statement from who many young’ins would call an “elderly person”. By all means, she is far from exuding what that word has come to mean. Here is a quote from her monologue which has piercingly fresh humor and can only be pulled off by a few people:
“I really have to thank Facebook … I didn’t know what Facebook was, and now that I do know what it is, I have to say, it sounds like a huge waste of time. I would never say the people on it are losers, but that’s only because I’m polite…People say ‘But Betty, Facebook is a great way to connect with old friends.’ Well at my age, if I want to connect with old friends, I need a Ouija board. Needless to say, we didn’t have Facebook when I was growing up. We had phonebook…but you wouldn’t waste an afternoon with it.”
